But hold on you say, so what, we don't want to use our binos underwater thanks!

Well actually that's not really why they are waterproofed. True you might lose them over the side of a boat and its good that you can fish them out again. But no, it's the more general value of full waterproofing that is most worthwhile and a more general indicator of build quality.
